Hi Crafty Friends,

This is Smita here.I am so excited to share this introduction cum tutorial with you all. Thanks Priya for this chance.
I have been working with polymer clay since last year.Polymer clay is a very good medium to work with and the quality of the end product is very reliable.
What is Polymer clay?
Polymer clay is a type of hardenable modeling clay based on the polymer polyvinyl chloride(PVC). It typically contains no clayminerals, but like mineral clay a liquid is added to dry particles until it achieves gel-like working properties, and similarly, the part is put into an oven to harden, hence its colloquial designation as clay. Polymer clay is generally used for making arts and craft items, and is also used in commercial applications to make decorative parts.

I would like to give few examples of  how this clay can be used.

Things needed to start with:
Some kind of rolling pin recommended acrylic
A tile or glass surface

A simple pendant tutorial:

1.Things needed
2.Condition your clay by pressing in between your fingers .

3.Roll it using acrylic roller and cut it into required shape as shown in 4.

1.Take some scrap clay and and mould it into your required shape(dome shape as shown in 2)

3.Place the rolled clay onto the scrap dome and cut the excess as shown in 4.

1.Press the layer firmly onto the dome.

2.Condition some black clay and roll and cut into required shapre using cutter or mould it using your hand(shown in pic 2,3,4)

Arrange the embellishments using your creativity and insert an eyepin .Finally it's ready to go into oven.

Before I give few other are few tips that I have learnt from my experience:
1.Baking instructions would different for different brands so please follow the instructions on the cover.
2.Sanding and buffing is mainly done for non texture products like beads ,cabochons.
3.While using white clay clean your hands
4.Pasta machine can be used to roll the clay and to make shades.
5.If clay is too hard use vegetable oil or clay softner while conditioning.
6.Keep the thickness of the clay around 3-4 mm
7.Use stamps to create texture.

Make your own embellishment like this flower below:

Using Plungers/cutters u can make your own embellishments for scrapbook and cards. As shown in this above pic.

In the next photo you can see how I made a peppa pig pendant for my daughter. Finally in the last pic you can see the baked and glazed products. Before glazing if the product u made doesn't have any texture sanding and buffing will give a very nice glaze and a liquid glaze at the end would be cherry on top.

The next example shows a Peppa pig pendant that I made for my daughter for her birthday.

this is how it looks after baked and glazed.

 Finished products:
Hope you all enjoyed this small introduction and tutorial about polymer clay and hope to see some awesome creations from you all.
